Run the case from complaint through to disposition.

Litigation is a long file with a lot of dates on it. Esqase opens each case from its own template, keeps pleadings and discovery on the matter, and holds every date you set on one calendar.

Open the case once, and file everything on it

Pleadings and discovery pile up for years. Open each case from a matter template, file every document against it, search by what a document says, and keep every date you set on one calendar.

FAQs

Deadlines, checklists, documents, review, billing, and import.

Does Esqase calculate litigation deadlines from court rules?

No. Esqase does not compute dates from a jurisdiction's rules of civil procedure. You set each date, typically as a task due a set time after the matter opened or after another task in the same list. Move one date and everything anchored to it shifts with it, and every task with a due date shows on the firm calendar. A statute of limitations date sits on the matter itself, with reminders at the lead times you add.

Can a discovery checklist repeat on every case of that type?

Yes. Build a task list template with the steps a case type always needs, with each due date anchored to the matter's open date or to another task, then attach it to a matter template so every new case opens with the checklist running.

How do we find a document in a file that has run for years?

Search reads what is inside a document rather than only its file name, so a phrase you half remember is enough. Results show a short summary of what each file is about, and every version is kept, so you can restore an earlier draft. Content search depends on your firm leaving AI document indexing on; with it off, search matches file names.

Can a senior lawyer review a draft before it is sent for signature?

Yes, with document approvals. Set which roles have their work reviewed, which roles may review, and how many approvals an item needs. Click Request reviewers on the document and it cannot be sent for signature until they approve, though you can keep writing and placing fields meanwhile. A reviewer's comments land in the document's own comment feed, and the author marks each point done. Invoices work the same way: one that needs approval cannot be sent or paid until it has it.

Can we bill litigation by the hour and track costs?

Yes. Each matter carries its own billing method, and time entries and expenses are recorded against it as the work happens. Unbilled entries arrive as editable lines on that matter's invoice and lock once they are on it. Mark a cost you fronted as an advanced client cost, and give an hourly matter a budget to track against.

Can we move open cases into Esqase?

Yes. Import contacts and matters in bulk from a CSV export of whatever you used before, pasted into the template Esqase builds for your firm, so open files move with you.

Keep the long file in one piece.
