Referrals and points

Every Esqase account comes with a personal referral link. Share it with a colleague or another firm, and when someone signs up with it and starts working in Esqase, you earn points. This page explains where your link lives, how to share it, what counts as a completed referral, how many points each outcome is worth, and where your referrals are listed.

Your link and your points belong to you rather than to a firm. The same link works whichever firm you are currently working in, and the points you have earned follow your account.

Before you begin

You must be signed in to Esqase with a verified email address.
There is nothing to set up. Your referral code is created for you, it is the same ten characters every time, and it does not expire.
Referrals live in the firm dashboard (the main Esqase app you use day to day), under your personal settings.

Note: Points are a record of the referrals you have completed. Redeeming them is not available yet, and the Redeem points page says so.

Where to find your referral link

Your referral link lives on a page of its own called Referrals.

In the bottom-left corner of the sidebar, click your name and photo to open the account menu.
Click Referrals.

You can also reach the same place from the Settings hub: open Settings, then in the Personal group click the Referrals card.

The page opens on Referrals, with a short navigation list beside it holding two items: Referrals (your link, your points, and the list of everyone who used it) and Redeem points.

Open the Referrals page.
Find Your referral link at the top. Your link sits in a read-only field, in the form https://esqase.com/r/ followed by your own ten-character code.
Click Copy. Esqase confirms with a Referral link copied message, and the link is on your clipboard.
Send it however you normally reach people: an email, a message, a post, or a conversation at a conference.

Tip: Send the whole link, exactly as you copied it. The code at the end is what connects a new account to you, so a shortened or retyped link may arrive without it.

What happens when someone uses your link

The link opens a short page on esqase.com that describes the workspace and offers the free trial. It does not ask for the code, and it does not show who sent it.
From there, the visitor either starts a free trial or signs in to an account they already have. The code travels with them on both paths, and the Sign up link on the sign-in page carries it too, so a detour through signing in does not lose the referral.
When they create their account, Esqase records the referral in the same step. There is no code to type and nothing for either of you to confirm.
The referral appears on your Referrals page as Pending.

Note: Esqase remembers your link in the visitor's browser for seven days from the moment they open the sign-up or sign-in screen with it. Someone who reads your link, leaves, and comes back to sign up later on the same browser still counts as your referral, and they do not have to open the link again. Signing in to an account that already exists clears it, because only a brand-new account can be referred.

Note: A referral is recorded once per account, and only while the account is being created. A person who already has an Esqase account, or who has already been referred by someone else, does not create a second referral by opening your link. Referring yourself is not allowed: an account created from your own link earns you nothing, and neither does one created with a variation of your own address (a plus tag such as you+new@example.com, or a Gmail address written with extra dots). An unrecognized code is ignored, so a broken link still lets someone sign up as normal.

What counts as a completed referral

A referral is completed the first time the person you referred puts their account to work in a firm. Here is every outcome and what it is worth.

Until one of those things happens, the referral stays Pending and carries no points.

Starting a firm can earn twice

A referral that starts a new firm is the only one that pays out in two steps.

10 points when the firm is created. The referral completes straight away, its outcome reads Started a firm, and the points are yours.
20 more points when that firm pays for its first subscription. They arrive shortly after the payment goes through, with nothing for you or for them to claim. When they land, the row's outcome changes to Subscribed and its Points figure goes from 10 to 30.

A free trial is not a payment, so a firm on a trial has not earned you the second award yet. The 20 points wait until the firm actually subscribes and its first payment succeeds. If the firm never subscribes, the referral simply keeps the 10 points it already earned.

Inviting into a firm you already belong to earns nothing

If the person you referred accepts an invite into a firm you are already a member of, the referral is marked Not eligible. Its outcome reads Joined your firm, it is worth 0 points, and it is not counted as a completed or a pending referral.

The programme rewards bringing new people and new firms to Esqase, so inviting your own colleagues into your own firm with your own link does not earn points. Use the normal invite flow for that, described in Managing firm members.

Not eligible is final. The referral does not turn into points later, even if that person goes on to start a firm of their own.

Note: The first outcome is the one that counts. A referral that completed when someone joined a firm keeps its ten points, even if that person later starts a firm as well, and a referral marked Not eligible stays that way.

Read your referrals page

Under your link, Points shows three figures:

Points earned, the total across every referral you have completed, counting both the first award and any subscription award on top of it.
Completed referrals, how many people you referred have joined or started a firm.
Pending, how many have signed up but not yet done either.

Referrals marked Not eligible are counted in neither Completed referrals nor Pending. They still appear in the table below, so you can see what happened.

Below that, the Referrals table lists everyone who signed up with your link, newest first.

Name, the name on the new account. It reads New user when the account was created without one.
Signed up, the date the account was created.
Outcome, one of Joined a firm, Started a firm, Subscribed, Joined your firm, or Not yet.
Status, one of Completed, Pending, or Not eligible.
Points, the total the referral has earned so far, including the subscription award once it lands. A pending referral and a not-eligible referral both show 0.

The table shows the people you referred and what they did, and nothing else about their account or their firm.

Redeem points

Redeem points is the second item in the Referrals navigation. Opening it tells you that redeeming points is coming soon, and offers a way back to your referrals.

Your balance is not affected by the wait. Points are recorded on each referral as it earns them, so everything you earn now is counted when redeeming arrives.

Common questions

Does my referral link expire? No. Your code stays the same for the life of your account, so a link you shared a year ago still works.
Can I refer someone who already uses Esqase? No. A referral is recorded only while an account is being created, so an existing account cannot be attributed to anyone.
Someone signed up without my link. Can it still be credited? No. There is no way to attach a referral after the account exists. Ask people to open your link first, then sign up from it.
Can one referral earn points more than once? Only in one case: someone who starts a firm of their own earns you 10 points when the firm is created and 20 more once that firm pays for its first subscription, for 30 in total. It is still one referral, and it still counts once under Completed referrals.
When do the extra 20 points arrive? Shortly after the firm's first subscription payment goes through. There is nothing to claim and no one to ask.
Does a free trial count as paying? No. The second award waits for a real subscription payment, so a firm still on its trial shows Started a firm and 10 points.
Why does a referral say Not eligible? Because that person accepted an invite into a firm you already belong to. Your own staff joining your own firm does not earn points.
Can a Not eligible referral become eligible later? No. That outcome is final, even if the person later starts a firm of their own.
Do I earn points for every person I refer? Yes, for each one who joins a firm you are not in or starts a firm. Refer three people who each join a different firm and you have three referrals worth 10 points each.
Does the person I referred have to do anything for me? Nothing beyond signing up from your link and then joining or starting a firm.
Do my points belong to my firm? No. Your referrals and your points are personal to you, the way your profile is, and they stay with you across every firm you belong to. See Your profile and personal settings.
Does anyone get an email about this? No. Referrals are recorded quietly, and your Referrals page is where you check them.

Troubleshooting

The person I referred signed up, but I see nothing on my page. The table lists referrals recorded at sign-up. If they already had an account, or reached the sign-up page without your link, there is nothing to record. Ask how they signed up before assuming something went wrong.
A referral has been Pending for a while. Pending is the normal state for someone who has an account but has not joined or started a firm yet. It completes on its own, with no action from you, the moment they accept an invite or create a firm.
A referral says Started a firm and 10 points. Where are the other 20? That firm has not paid for a subscription yet. A firm on a free trial has paid nothing, so the second award is still waiting. Once the first payment goes through, the points land on their own, the outcome changes to Subscribed, and the row reads 30.
A referral says Not eligible and earned nothing. That person accepted an invite into a firm you are already a member of. Nothing has gone wrong and nothing is lost, but that referral will not earn points. Share your link with people outside your firm.
The link I opened shows no sign of my code. That page looks the same whether or not a code is recognized, so this is not a symptom on its own. To rule out a damaged link, copy it again from the Referrals page and compare the last ten characters.
Nothing happened when I clicked Copy. Some browsers block clipboard access, especially in private windows. Select the link in the field and copy it with your keyboard instead.
